Christmas and new year

Wow - what a beautiful time of year in Daylesford! This Christmas break has been a great time to spend out and about with our family and friends in this beautiful region and celebrate with our town in the new year parade and fireworks.

Last week we took a drive out to the Pyrenees wine region, its about 90 mins drive from Daylesford and well worth it if you are a fan of Shiraz, Pino Noir & Chardonnay (like me) - this region is highly regarded for its temperate climate wines, many of which I found to be very elegant and quite different from the large fruit drive wines you might find in the Barossa for example, more European you might say.

Here are a couple of pictures taken from Dalwhinnie Wines and Warrenmang Vineyard & Resort. Right now the country is very dry and makes for some stunning scenery among the vines contrasting the bright Yellows and Browns against the vibrant green vines.

Luke was particularly protective of the wine purchased from Warrenmang. Thanks Athalie Bazzani for your hospitality. It was also nice to spend some time at local establishments, like Koukla café, You can see Deidre is chilling out with a coffee and breakfast. We all caught fish at the Tuki Trout Farm - only 30 minutes drive from here, where you are supplied with all you need to catch fresh trout and take it back to your kitchen... well, everyone except for me... I did cook fresh Fish and chips with the fish everyone else caught though.

And who could visit Daylesford in January and not hang out by the lake? This scene is only 10 minute downhill walk from our place and was taken on a balmy 42 degree day last week. There is a lawn for sun baking, picnic and of course swimming is great!

The Daylesford New Year Celebrations didn't disappoint with a fine wood chopping display followed by a huge Parade down Vincent Street with the CFA trucks, and floats from all corners of the town, this is the hobbit parade.

I turned 42 this December and enjoyed the evening with fine Wine and French Cheese from  Duck Duck Goose and Larder in Kyneton, only 20 mins drive from Daylesford. as you can see the weather can go from 16 degrees to 42 degrees in a matter of days here, so pack for anything, I'm wearing a puffer jacket at 4 o'clock in the sun!

Finally - New Years Fireworks was put on by The Lake House this year. these were taken off our deck overlooking the lake - terrible pic from my phone, but they were fantastic to watch!

So there you have it, another 2014 done, Deidre & I would like to wish everyone a happy & safe new year in 2015, and we hope to see you soon at Azidene House !
